Hong Kong Hath Fallen
So it’s the second of July currently. One day after the anniversary of the establishment of hk. Nothing huge happened yesterday because of the new national security law. Beijing expedited the request overnight and got it approved and basically bypassed all HK legislation. They put it up the night before establishment day just so they could suppress the protests. Basically now, any sort of protesting of like any chanting of slogans about hk independence is gone. They’ve suppressed it so much that we are now essentially china. Under the reign of a suppressive regime. Yeah it sucks a lot, I’m not going to be affected by it because I don’t protest but it was a noble cause and now I just don’t feel safe in hk anymore. It’s a shame. HK has always been the gateway to China, free of oppressive rule and its enjoyed its own civil liberties. 2 million out of 7 took to the streets and to voice their opinions, as framed in our constitution and were ignored. The most distressing thing was the purple flag. During protests the police held up different coloured flags that mean different levels of warning. The blue was basic and lowest level. It essentially said this is now illegal and disperse immediately. It was basically telling the people, if you don’t have the proper fighting equipment, you better bail cause shits about to go down. So most of the public left but the ones who stayed behind were the ones who risked it. They were the men and women with the hard hats, goggles, gas masks, and of course the signature umbrella. The purple flag is new and it basically says you are dissing the Chinese government, prepare to be fired upon. Now getting arrested could land you 3-6 years in prison. Not sure about the judicial system but I think now they are allowed to bypass it completely. Serious offences can land you lifetime in prison. Now, Hong Kong has always been a safe haven with its own freedom, essentially acting like an international hub but now it’s been taken over 27 years too early. It’s a bummer to see all of this gone now, it really was the revolution of our times. We’ve fought the good fight, we’ve kept the faith, Hong Kong has fallen.
